The Long Center for the Performing Arts seeks an experienced Production Director. The position will lead the technical aspects of two venues: the Long Center for the Performing Arts, a 100-year-old historic theater, as well as the Lafayette Theater, a 1938 art deco theater undergoing renovation. The Production Director reports to the executive director, leading production budgeting, scheduling, and technical logistics for national touring acts, resident companies, and rental clients. The qualified candidate will have experience working with technical riders, advancing show requirements, securing sound and lighting systems, hiring tech crew members, and adhering to individual show budgets. Essential Functions:
Accountable for the technical budgets for every performance
Review and approve stagehand assignments
Collaborate efficiently with all users of the production related aspects of both facilities
Organize all production meetings, create and track design deadlines and deliverables
Develop and implement tech procedures, plans and execution strategies
Develop relationships with vendors
Collaborate with production vendors to produce and present high quality performances, prioritizing a high-quality experience for the artists and visiting production teams.
Understand the operations of the facilities as they relate to the production
Focus on recruiting and supervising contract and hourly staff
Ability to install/repair equipment and ongoing maintenance
A positive attitude to engage with challenges; Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned
Education/Experience: College degree or equivalent experience required with major in production, management, technical design and/or entertainment-related field. Minimum 5 years professional experience in performing arts operations with both hands-on and management skills in a variety of production and technical disciplines. Extensive experience advancing productions as well as interpreting technical riders and collaborating with visiting tour managers and production teams. Experience advancing large incoming production, including reviewing and revising tech riders, placing backline orders, and scheduling the appropriate production and technical staff for each performance.
